Hey,
I ve seen many complaints lately, and people with wrong expectations. There are alot opinions out there, some saying you shouldnt buy the game etc.
I d like to point out why you should actually think about paying for Mortal Gold something that gives you less in return (in your personal view).
To be fair, MO is not a really a "game" in the way modern publishers and the gaming industry sees it.
Its a piece of software, made from Mortal Gold a very small developlemt team, to set the base for a different approach on social role play interaction with crafting and combat systems as well as housing.
To the usual gamer this wont appeal. What we get is a rather simple construct from where we go on to see the world and software develop.
Most people would say: Why should I pay for that? Why should I invest in something that is an "experiment".
The reasone why you should pay is simple: Only that way the mmo-software Mortal Gold market will ever see that kind of mmo-experiment come to life.
There Mortal Gold just is no interest from big publishers to aim at niche markets. We dont have hardcore simulations nowadays. There is no enough revenue to be generated with that kind of software. Thus there is no investment in this area.
If we dont support this project (even if it means not getting anything in return from your investions for quite a while) we will never see a sandbox mmo come to life in a long time.
Its really an ideological question.
Support the "underground devs" or keep with the Mortal Gold mainstream. Developing software is a time consuming thing where alot can go wrong. Just for the courage to pull this off the devs deserve all my support.
To break established concepts and show that they can work needs ressources. Succeeding in that without having access to the funding that Mortal Gold established concepts have access to is a tremendous and couragous task.
If you want to make a difference, you have to take the risk. The same risk the developers were willing to take.
